Nitrous oxide, sometimes called “laughing gas,” is a safe and effective sedative agent inhaled through a mask over your nose to help you be more comfortable at our office during procedures. It is not intended to put you to sleep or “knock you out.” You breathe normally through the nose and within minutes you be able to feel the relaxing effects of the nitrous. Our goal is for you to feel calm and comfortable especially if you typically feel stressed or anxious when going to the dentist.
On nitrous / laughing gas, you will still be able to hear and respond to the dentists if he give you direction. Nitrous oxide effects wear off soon after the mask is taken off.
Talk to Drs. Slaven, Tinker, Bruening and Bruening about your concerns and procedure to see if nitrous oxide / laughing gas would be a good option for you.
