Dr. Carissa Bruening was raised in the small town of Fredonia, Kansas. Her interest in dentistry was initially sparked when her hometown dental office asked her to work for the summer when she was 14 years old. Growing up, Dr. Bruening enjoyed her science and health courses and after her time spent working in the dental office, she began researching dentistry as a future career.
Carissa graduated magna cum laude from Kansas State University in 2012 with a degree in Kinesiology/Pre-dentistry. She then attended the University of Missouri – Kansas City, School of Dentistry and graduated in May 2016, with academic honors.
Dr. Carissa Bruening was recently married to her husband and now ActOn colleague, Dr. Andrew Bruening. In her free time she says, “I love times of relaxation with my husband, especially after two years of a long distance relationship, but I also love being active in sports. Basketball, volleyball and tennis are my favorite sports to play, but as I get older, I realize I will be playing more golf in my future.” Dr. Bruening also enjoys training for and participating in half marathon races.
